A star from The Voice Kids has been killed in a horror hit and run, alongside another man, as police search for the driver. Nicole Valeria Vargas Gomez died aged only 19, seven years after she appeared on Colombia’s edition of The Voice Kids aged 12.

The crash happened on the Circasia-Armenia road in Quindia, Colombia. William Andres Paipa, 40, also died in the collision. Police said both Nicole and William were crossing the road when a vehicle, that has yet to be identified, hit them. Both were thrown in the air by the impact and landed on the opposite side of the road.

Police also confirmed that the driver fled the scene without stopping to help Nicole and William. They are now searching for the vehicle and its driver.

Though Nicole did not reach the final of The Voice Kids, or La Voz Kids as it is called in Colombia, she continued to sing in the years following her appearance, performing at many festivals across the country.

Outside of singing, the 19-year-old was studying Business Administration at the University of Quindio. In a statement, a spokesperson for the university said: “Nicole was a young woman committed to her academic training and to the cultural life of our alma mater.

“From the classrooms and also from the stages, she left her mark through her discipline, sensitivity and deep love for art. As a member of Coranto [the university’s vocal group], she always carried the name of the University of Quindio with honour to every meeting and performance.”

Nicole is sadly one of several celebrities to die so far this year, including Catherine O’Hara, Eric Dane and James Van Der Beek.
