Madden back for the Tigers are 1300-day hiatus
Jock Madden believes he’s come a long way as a player in the 1300 days since he last pulled on the Wests Tigers jersey.
“I just think maturity, development is a big factor,” Madden said. “I feel I learnt my trade well up in Brisbane. I’m just really looking forward to getting out there with the boys on Friday night … Pulling on that jersey again, I’ll be feeling a lot of emotions.
“But I’ve got a job to do, we’ve got a job to do, that’s what we’re over here for.”
Madden is back in the black, white and orange for Friday’s away clash against the Warriors, as the replacement for injured co-captain Jarome Luai. It’s a full-circle moment for the playmaker after making his NRL debut at the Tigers in 2021, and playing his last game for the club in round 25 the following year.
Welcome
Welcome to our coverage of a Friday night football double-header, Dom Brock at the blog desk tonight.
First up we have one of the form teams of the competition, unbeaten surprise packets the Warriors, hosting an improved Wests Tigers side in Auckland. After a round one bye the Tigers thumped the Cowboys then gave up a half-time lead to lose narrowly to Souths last week, and can take a share of the lead at the top of the table if they manage an upset win tonight. They will have to do it without star man Jarome Luai though, with Jock Madden replacing the injured playmaker at five-eighth.
Then the Broncos will look to bounce back from another week in the headlines when they face local rivals the Dolphins. The defending premiers have lost two of their first three games this season, and are coming off a week in which assistant coach Ben Te’o quit the club. There has also been no shortage of criticism of the club and injured captain Adam Reynolds from Broncos great Gorden Tallis.
The Dolphins are fresh from a stunning 38-10 away drubbing of top-four contenders Cronulla and can heap more pressure on Brisbane with another win tonight. Follow all the action as it happens.
