Bhubaneswar: In a significant push to industrial expansion, Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi on Wednesday launched and laid the foundation for 36 projects entailing investments of over Rs 40,800 crore, signalling a shift from policy intent to on-ground execution.
The projects, spread across multiple districts, are expected to generate more than 59,000 jobs and span a diversified sectoral base — from green energy equipment and metals to textiles, defence manufacturing, IT/ITeS, automobiles and food processing.
The flagship event at Bhuinpur in Khordha district saw the rollout of 34 projects under Begunia block, while two additional projects were taken up at Ramdaspur in Cuttack. The programme drew a turnout of over 10,000, including industry stakeholders.
The investment basket reflected a widening industrial ecosystem, with participation from firms such as Luminous Power Technologies, Ampin Solar, Calderys India Refractories, Page Industries, Adani Enterprises, KPR Mill, Jupiter Tatravagonka Railwheel Factory, ATC Tyres (Yokohama), Ambuja Concrete, Trimetro Garments and Danieli Corus.
The sectoral spread points out Odisha’s attempt to balance heavy industry with emerging segments like renewables, downstream manufacturing and labour-intensive textiles.
Chairing a high-level industry interaction at Bhuinpur, Majhi emphasised that Odisha’s industrial growth is entering an “execution-led phase,” with a focus on faster clearances, real-time monitoring and institutional support through agencies such as IPICOL and district facilitation bodies.
The emphasis, officials indicated, is on reducing project lag and ensuring time-bound implementation — a persistent concern in large-scale industrial investments.
In Cuttack, the Chief Minister inaugurated Page Industries’ textile manufacturing unit at Ramdaspur, built with an investment of around Rs 750 crore. The facility alone is expected to create nearly 5,850 jobs.
Additionally, groundwork was laid for another unit at Chhatabar in Khordha district, involving an investment of Rs 258 crore and an estimated employment potential of 3,500.
CM Majhi highlighted textiles and apparel as a key employment driver, particularly for women and youth, noting that improving infrastructure and a skilled workforce are positioning Odisha as an emerging destination for labour-intensive manufacturing.
