One dead, two hospitalised following head-on crash north-west of Brisbane

A woman has died and a man has been admitted to hospital with serious injuries following a head-on collision near Lake Wivenhoe overnight.

Police suspected the two cars – a white Holden Commodore and a black BMW – were travelling in opposite directions on the Brisbane Valley Highway shortly after 11pm on Saturday when they crashed.

The driver of the Commodore, a 23-year-old Bracken Ridge woman, was declared dead at the scene.

Her passenger, a 24-year-old Mango Hill man, was assessed by paramedics for significant pelvic and leg injuries.

He was taken to Princess Alexandra Hospital in a potentially life-threatening condition.

The driver of the BMW, a 30-year-old woman from Coominya, 85 kilometres north-west of Brisbane, also suffered significant pelvic and leg injuries and was taken to the same hospital in a potentially life-threatening condition

Officers said they were investigating reports that the Commodore had been seen hooning in the area with a large group just before the crash.

They called on anyone who might have seen the collision, or who has relevant footage, to contact police.
