Only one monstrous victory could rival — or top — US hockey’s 1980 Olympic glory

At the start, let’s put it this way: You probably think you already have seen all you can see about the 1980 U.S. Olympic hockey team. You may think you know more than you can possibly ever know. You’ve seen “Miracle.” You’ve seen the 30-for-30. You’ve watched that grainy old game film a thousand times.

You still want to watch the Netflix documentary “Miracle: The Boys of ’80.” Honestly, it doesn’t matter if you know by heart all the scores of the games they played, if you can go minute-by-minute with the great upset of the Soviet Union, if you’ve memorized the greatest locker-room speech in the history of sports.

(That would be Herb Brooks, a fiery coach who nevertheless almost never cussed, just before the lads took the ice against Finland in the gold medal game, sneering at them: “If you lose this game, you’ll take it to your f—–g graves.” Then, after turning away, he spun on his heels and added, “Your f—–g graves.”)

You’ll still watch it. And when it’s over you’ll start to watch it again.
