Oscars 2026: Anna Wintour Ignores Anne Hathaway Calls Her Emily In A Nod to The Devil Wears Prada

Anna Wintour and Anne Hathaway delivered an unexpected and iconic moment at the 98th Academy Awards with a playful nod to The Devil Wears Prada. The film starred Merly Streep, Hathaway and Emily Blunt, among others. Streep’s character Miranda Priestly is widely believed to be inspired by Wintour, the legendary fashion editor and the former Editor-In-Chief of Vogue.

Wintour and Hathaway took the stage together to present the awards for Best Costume Design and Best Makeup and Hairstyling.  During the segment, Hathaway asked Wintour what she thought of her dress, but the icy fashion editor simply ignored the question and moved straight to announcing the nominees, recreating Miranda Priestly energy from the film.

Later, Wintour referred to Hathway as Emily, a cheeky callback to The Devil Wears Prada, where Miranda frequently called Hathaway’s character Andy by the wrong name.

This comes just a couple of months before the sequel of The Devil Wears Prada.
Directed once again by David Frankel, the sequel reunites the original creative team, including writer Aline Brosh McKenna and producer Wendy Finerman. New faces joining the ensemble include Lady Gaga in a cameo role, along with Kenneth Branagh, Simone Ashley, Lucy Liu, and several others.

The story this time is expected to explore Miranda’s career in a changing media landscape. Tension rises when she crosses paths with Emily Blunt’s character, now a high-powered executive at a luxury brand Miranda needs for advertising. Fans are eager to see how Andy Sachs fits into this updated storyline.

Based on Lauren Weisberger’s novel, The Devil Wears Prada was a box-office hit and earned two Oscar nominations. The Devil Wears Prada 2 arrives in theatres on May 1.
