Michael B. Jordan has been winning hearts with his performance in the Ryan Coogler-directed movie, Sinners, wherein he played identical twins ‘Smoke’ and ‘Stack’. The actor not only carved a space in the hearts of his fans, but also bagged an Oscar in the ‘Best Actor’ category. At the 98th Academy Awards, which was held on March 15, 2026, at the Dolby Theatre at Ovation Hollywood in Los Angeles, Michael B. Jordan took his first Oscar and, with his acceptance speech, left everyone in awe.

For the unversed, it was stated that Michael B. Jordan for Sinners and Timothée Chalamet for Marty Supreme were in a close race for the Best Actor award at the Oscars, and yes, the former was selected as the winner. Apart from Jordan and Chalamet, the nominations included Ethan Hawke for Blue Moon, Leonardo DiCaprio for One Battle After Another, and Wagner Moura for The Secret Agent. Jordan, while accepting the honour, said that ‘God is good’, before addressing his mother and the rest of his family members.
To mention, Sinners is Jordan’s fifth collaboration with Ryan Coogler, and before this movie, the duo worked together in movies like Fruitvale Station, Creed, Black Panther and Black Panther: Wakanda Forever. While bagging the Oscar, he addressed Coogler and thanked him for giving him a space to be seen. He said that he’s honoured for being able to call Coogler a friend and a collaborator. Jordan could be quoted as saying:
“So honoured to to call you a collaborator and a friend and a give me an opportunity and space for me to um to be seen. I love you too, bro.”

Michael B. Jordan became the first actor to grab an Oscar for playing twins, and the sixth black actor to win in the leading-actor category. The other black actors to win Oscars have been Sidney Poitier, Denzel Washington, Jamie Foxx, Forest Whitaker, and Will Smith. Jordan, in his accepting speech, cited the men who came before him and thanked them. The actor further thanked his well-wishers and those who pushed him to give the best. Jordan promised that he will keep stepping up and keep being the best version of himself. Michael B. Jordan could be quoted as saying:
“Everybody in this room and everybody at home for supporting my career. I know you guys want me to do well, and I wanna do that because you guys bet on me. So thank you for keeping on betting on me, keep stepping up and keep being the best version of myself I can be.”

The actor also won hearts with one of his acclaimed roles in Black Panther and its sequel, Black Panther: Wakanda Forever.
