Over 5000 flights cancelled: Was IndiGo cancellation crisis a deliberate conspiracy? DGCA investigation reveals…

Indigo Cancellation Crisis Reality: The role of Indigo management in the cancellation crisis is under scrutiny. Questions are constantly being raised about whether this crisis is the result of a deliberate conspiracy by Indigo? Was Indigo using this crisis to pressure the Ministry of Aviation and the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) regarding the new Flight Duty Time Limitations (FDTL) rules? In response to these questions, Indigo CEO Peter Elbers first issued a clarification via video. And then, Chairman Vikram Mehta released a video stating that all the allegations against the airline are false.

However, during the investigation, some facts have come to light that disprove all of IndiGo’s claims. According to ministry sources, all airlines were given sufficient time to comply with the new FDTL rules. All airlines, including IndiGo, were aware that the second phase of FDTL would be implemented on November 1st. Before the FDTL rules came into effect and in November, several rounds of discussions were held with all airlines, including IndiGo, regarding compliance. The DGCA spoke with all airlines, who stated that they were complying. IndiGo also stated that they were complying with FDTL and had no problems.

Did IndiGo never mention about problems?

He said that in any of the meetings, IndiGo never once stated that they were facing any problems. All airlines were operating well in November. There were some moderate cancellations in November, and the DGCA was monitoring them. A meeting was also held between the DGCA and IndiGo on December 1st regarding FDTL. In this meeting, some clarifications were sought regarding FDTL. Clarifications were discussed during the meeting, but IndiGo still did not discuss the pilot and cabin crew shortage. IndiGo never stated in any meeting that they were facing any crew shortage issues.

“The reason for IndiGo’s flight cancellations is not the new FDTL rules, but rather the airline’s internal rostering errors. FDTL rules were implemented after consultation with all stakeholders. IndiGo had promised to fully comply, but internal deficiencies led to the crisis, causing significant inconvenience to passengers. The DGCA has issued a show-cause notice, and a four-member committee is investigating the matter. Following the investigation, strict action will be taken against those responsible. He clearly stated that passenger harassment, no matter how large an airline is, will not be tolerated,” Ram Mohan Naidu, Minister of Civil Aviation said.
