Pakistan is providing huge funding for Bangladeshi media outlets to spread anti-India propaganda.
New Delhi: Pakistan’s intelligence agency, Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI), has begun implementing its dangerous plans in Bangladesh. Ahead of the general elections in Bangladesh, the ISI is playing a far more calculated and dangerous role this time. This pattern is far more dangerous than what was observed during the July 2024 period. The ISI’s objective is to incite violence in Bangladesh and bring fundamentalists to power. The death of student leader Sharif Usman Hadi has given the ISI exactly what it wanted. Following Hadi’s death on Thursday, 19 December, violent protests erupted late at night, escalating the situation.
Bangladesh On Fire After Hadi’s Death
Usman Hadi was the spokesperson for the radical Bangladeshi organization Inqilab Manch. He emerged during the July uprising last year that overthrew Sheikh Hasina’s government. He was shot in the head by masked assailants during an election campaign in Dhaka last Friday, December 12. After initial treatment in Bangladesh, he was airlifted to Singapore on Monday, December 15, where he died while on life support.
As soon as news of Hadi’s death broke, violence erupted in Dhaka on Thursday night. The offices of major newspapers like Prothom Alo and The Daily Star were set on fire. Sheikh Mujibur Rahman’s house at Dhanmondi 32 was also targeted once again. The violence quickly spread to other parts of the country. Reports of violence also came from Rajshahi, Chittagong, and Mymensingh. The Awami League office in Rajshahi was set on fire.
ISI’s Plan In Bangladesh And India
Amidst the ongoing violence in Bangladesh, the ISI has also become active. The agency has instructed its old ally, Jamaat-e-Islami, and its student and madrasa-affiliated organizations not to lead the movement directly, but to fuel it from behind the scenes. The motive behind this is to ensure that local people are more visible, making their movement appear spontaneous, while external networks continue to provide support.
Pakistan is providing huge funding for Bangladeshi media outlets to spread anti-India propaganda, and several social media handles influencing the unrest are being operated from Pakistan. These platforms are repeatedly spreading disinformation about India. The unrest in Bangladesh provides the ISI with an opportunity to put pressure on India’s eastern region.
