Passengers aboard a LATAM Airlines flight were thrown into panic after their jet was suddenly engulfed in smoke on the tarmac of a Brazilian airport, according to reports.
Flight LA3418 was preparing to take off from São Paulo’s Guarulhos International Airport for Porto Alegre on Thursday night when a ground fire broke out, according to Estadao.
The blaze began when a baggage conveyor attached to the aircraft caught fire, sending smoke billowing into the plane with 169 passengers on board, the outlet reported.
Dramatic footage posted to X showed the plane shrouded in clouds of dark smoke as flames raged nearby.
A queue of rattled passengers was also seen lining up in the smoky cabin as crew members evacuated them from the jet and fire crews put out the flames.
Photos also showed passengers escaping on emergency slides.

All 169 passengers were safely evacuated with no injuries, the outlet reported, citing the airline.
The fire had started in equipment belonging to a subcontractor responsible for loading cargo onto the Airbus A320, the Daily Mail reported.
Of the affected travelers, 159 passengers finally arrived in Porto Alegre on Friday morning after the terrifying ordeal, while 10 others were placed on other flights or transported by land, the outlet reported.
LATAM Airlines did not immediately respond to The Post’s request for comment.
