Paris Saint-Germain defender Achraf Hakimi says he is preparing to stand trial after a rape allegation made against him in France.
A 24-year-old woman accused the Morocco international of raping her at his home in Paris in 2023.
Hakimi denies the claim and has maintained his innocence since the investigation began. The public prosecutor’s office in Nanterre opened a preliminary inquiry in March of that year, and no trial date has yet been confirmed.
Responding publicly, Hakimi wrote: “Today, a rape accusation is enough to justify a trial.
“This is as unjust to the innocent as it is to the genuine victims. I calmly await this trial, which will allow the truth to come out publicly.”
The case emerges while the defender remains an important figure for PSG on the pitch. He was included in the club’s squad ahead of their Champions League knockout play-off second leg against Monaco on Wednesday.
Born in Spain but representing Morocco internationally, the 27-year-old has made 194 appearances for the French champions and helped them win both Ligue 1 and the Champions League last season.
His performances were also recognised at the Best FIFA Football Awards in Paris, where he was named in the FIFPRO men’s world team of the year.
Hakimi was a key member of the Morocco side that reached the semi-finals of the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, becoming the first African nation to achieve that milestone.
