Grey’s Anatomy star Patrick Dempsey was supported by his daughter, Talula Fyfe Dempsey, at the BAFTAs as he attended just days after the death of his friend and former colleague Eric Dane, whose death was announced on Friday 20 February.
Patrick, who played Eric‘s onscreen best friend in the hit medical drama, wore a black suit and black sunglasses as he posed on the carpet with his 24-year-old daughter on his arm.
Talula also wore black, choosing to wear a simple black sheath dress. Patrick and his wife Jillian Fink are not only parents to Talula but to twin sons Darby and Sullivan, who are 19.

This came two days after Eric died aged 53. The actor’s tragic death followed a battle with motorneurone disease. Patrick paid an emotional tribute to his friend and former co-star on The Chris Evans Breakfast Show.
He said: “I just woke up this morning and it was very sad to read the news. It’s hard to put into words. I feel really so sad for his children. He was bedridden and it was very hard for him to swallow so the quality of his life was deteriorating so rapidly.
“He was the funniest man – he was such a joy to work with and I want to just remember him in that spirit because any time he was on set, he brought so much fun to it. He had a great sense of humour. He was easy to work with, we got along instantly. First scene was him, you know, in all his glory, coming out of the bathroom with the towel on looking amazing, making you feel completely out of shape and insignificant.”
He added: “We hit it off because it was never really any competition. There was just this wonderful mutual respect. He’s wickedly intelligent and I’m always going to remember those moments of fun that we had together and celebrate the joy that he did bring to people’s lives and the real loss is for us who don’t have them anymore.”
Patrick and Eric worked together on Grey’s Anatomy, where the former played Derek ‘McDreamy’ Shepherd, while Eric later joined as Derek’s best friend Mark ‘McSteamy’ Sloan. Eric was written out of the show after his character died of injuries sustained in a plane crash and Patrick was written out years later after his character died of injuries sustained in a car crash.
Patrick and his daughter were one of many guests at the BAFTAs this year, which took place on 22 February. Hosted by actor Alan Cumming, the ceremony also welcomed Leonardo Di Caprio, Paul Mescal and Prince William and Princess Kate.
The Princess of Wales‘ appearance at the event was her first since 2023, as she previously skipped the awards due to her cancer diagnosis and subsequent recovery.
