Peter Andre has candidly admitted that, despite financial security and family happiness, he struggles when his professional life slows down
Peter Andre has opened up about the pressures of fame, family life, and the challenges he has faced throughout his career, admitting that he still struggles when his professional life slows down.
Speaking on the Nicky Byrne HQ podcast, the singer admitted that, while he has achieved fame and financial success, he still requires purpose and drive, and “struggles” when he isn’t working.
The 52-year-old also reflected on a mental breakdown he suffered in the 1990s, revealing he felt isolated during that period and found it difficult to talk to anyone about his struggles.
Speaking candidly about his experience, Andre said: “I am very grateful because Dad in those days, when things were taking off and I didn’t think about money, all I wanted was to be on stage and to be successful. Dad was behind the scenes, saving money for me and investing it in properties.
“And when I went through that breakdown and that horrible time and I couldn’t work, Dad had said to me ‘Don’t worry. I’ve got your properties, but you’re not allowed to touch it.’ So I, I wasn’t. I had these assets, but I didn’t have any physical money. Nothing. He just said, ‘you’re gonna learn to live simply again.'”
Andre recounted how the breakdown forced him out of the public eye for three years, during which he was unable to work despite having assets in place. “So, in the height of our fame, touring the world doing arenas, then having this horrific breakdown, which meant three years out of the spotlight completely. No work because I couldn’t work. And I had all the money and properties, and I couldn’t touch it, and I learned to live simply again,” he explained.
Now, with a secure financial foundation and a portfolio of properties, Andre admitted that financial stability alone does not fulfill him. He said: “I am now in a position where I could stop tomorrow, and I have properties, and I have built a bit of an empire behind the scenes, which I’m really happy about, but that doesn’t satisfy me. And that’s why your question is excellent, because when times go quiet, I struggle with that.
“I love being with the family. Oh my God, they’re my life. My family is everything but I struggle with it. I need to be working. I’m just one of those guys, and it’s not for the money. It’s not, it’s just. I just need that motivation. I, I’ve got that drive where I’ve just gotta keep going.”
Family continues to be a central focus for Andre, who shares children Junior, 20, and Princess, 18, with his ex-wife Katie Price. In a move that surprised many, the former couple recently took to social media to release a joint statement just days after Price’s shock wedding to Lee Andrews.
The statement emphasised their commitment to supporting their children and moving past previous conflicts. “Katie Price and Peter Andre have decided to close the door on the past and move forward into a new chapter with positivity and respect,” it began, posted on both of their Instagram Stories.
The statement continued: “We are both focused on creating a calm and supportive environment for our children. We have reached a mutual agreement, both legally and personally confirming that neither of us will speak negatively about the other going forward. This decision reflects a shared commitment to our family and stability.”
They added: “We want to stand united for our children. We are hoping this is a start of a positive relationship. We ask for understanding and support from both the media and the public as we move ahead.”
