TEHRAN – President Masoud Pezeshkian says the latest indirect talks between Iran and the United States, held in Oman, offer a real opportunity for a just and mutually acceptable resolution of the nuclear issue, provided Washington abandons pressure and excessive demands.
Speaking in Tehran during a ceremony marking the 47th anniversary of the victory of the Islamic Revolution, attended by foreign ambassadors, Pezeshkian said the new round of negotiations—launched with the support of regional neighbors—could pave the way for a rational and fair outcome.
“The talks that have begun in Oman are a good opportunity for a just, logical, and mutually acceptable solution,” he said, stressing that Iran seeks clear guarantees for its enrichment rights under the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty and the full lifting of sanctions.
“Our message to the world is clear,” the president added. “Iran keeps its promises when it sees honesty and commitment from the other side.”
Pezeshkian described dialogue as the only sustainable path to addressing regional and global challenges, saying Iran’s foreign policy is based on dignified interaction, respect for sovereignty, and cooperation on an equal footing. He reiterated that Tehran welcomes negotiations grounded in international law and the win-win principle.
He also said Iran extends a hand of friendship to countries seeking sincere cooperation, highlighting the country’s economic, transport, and knowledge-based capacities as areas for multilateral cooperation, particularly with neighbors and emerging powers that support multilateralism and respect international law.
The latest round of Iran–U.S. negotiations was held in Muscat on February 6, mediated by Omani Foreign Minister Badr bin Hamad Al Busaidi, amid heightened regional tensions fueled by a U.S. military buildup and repeated threats of force against Iran.
Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, who led the Iranian delegation, described the talks as a “good start,” saying Iran’s positions and concerns were clearly conveyed to the American side and that both parties intend to continue discussions.
Addressing foreign ambassadors during the same ceremony in Tehran, Araghchi said Iran is approaching the negotiations seriously and is seeking genuine, result-oriented talks. However, he stressed that progress depends entirely on the other side demonstrating the same level of seriousness and commitment.
“The Iranian people resist the language of force, but they respond positively to respect,” he said, noting that years of hostile U.S. policies have created deep mistrust that must be addressed if diplomacy is to succeed.
Araghchi reaffirmed that Iran’s right to enrich uranium on its own soil is a non-negotiable red line, adding that any technical measures can only be discussed within a framework that recognizes this legal right. Demands beyond that, he warned, would signal bad faith.
Iran and the United States previously held five rounds of Oman-mediated talks on a replacement for the 2015 nuclear deal, before diplomatic efforts were derailed by a U.S.-backed Israeli war of aggression in June 2025. The 12-day assault, later joined directly by Washington, killed at least 1,064 people in Iran, including military commanders, nuclear scientists, and civilians, and led to the cancellation of a planned sixth round of talks.
The aggression was met with a decisive Iranian response that forced the Israeli regime to seek a ceasefire through the United States. Analysts believe the war showed Tehran’s readiness to defend itself while remaining committed to diplomacy.
Meanwhile, Secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council Ali Larijani is set to travel to Muscat to meet senior Omani officials and discuss regional and international developments, as well as bilateral cooperation, amid preparations for further talks with Washington.
Iranian officials have strongly warned against any attempt to use negotiations as a cover for renewed military aggression, making clear that while Tehran prefers dialogue, it will respond even more forcefully to any miscalculation by its adversaries.
