HyFlyers GC captain Phil Mickelson will return to the LIV Golf lineup this week in South Africa after missing four events due to a family health matter.
The club announced the news on social media Tuesday, writing, “Cap is back,” over a photo of Mickelson pumping his fist on the course.
The three-time Masters champ will make his 2026 season debut at The Club at Steyn City, located in Johannesburg, when LIV Golf South Africa begins Thursday and runs through Sunday.
Mickelson missed four LIV events this season: Riyadh, Adelaide, Hong Kong and Singapore.
In a Feb. 1 Instagram post, Mickelson explained he would be missing two events, and that American Ollie Schniederjans would replace him in Riyadh.
“I will not be able to participate in the first two LIV events as [my wife] Amy and I need to be present for a family health matter,” Mickelson wrote at the time.
“I can’t wait to compete again and look forward to rejoining my teammates as soon as possible.”
He did not share further details.
Wade Ormsby also filled in for Mickelson this season for the HyFlyers — currently in 12th place in the standings, only ahead of Majesticks GC.
The 55-year-old Mickelson hasn’t competed since the LIV Golf 2025 finale last August.
In 2025, Mickelson missed the cut in three of the four majors, including the Masters.

His return comes three weeks ahead of a trip to Augusta, beginning April 9, where he is set to make his 34th appearance. Mickelson has taken home the green jacket three times in his career, with his last Masters title coming in 2010.
