New insight into the relationship between the Princess of Wales and her sister Pippa has been revealed in a brand new biography by Mirror royal editor Russell Myers

It’s always been known that Princess Kate and her sister Pippa share a special bond, but a new royal book reveals just how much the future Queen’s sister has supported her behind the scenes. During her recent health challenges, Kate’s world was completely rocked, and she was forced to step back from public duties for a time to focus on her well being.

In private, a new biography about William and Kate by Mirror royal editor, Russell MyersWilliam and Catherine: The Intimate Inside Story – provides new insight into the ways the Middleton family rallied around the Princess of Wales during that testing time. After post-operative tests revealed that cancer had been present and Kate needed to undergo a course of chemotherapy, she stayed out of the public eye, but in that time wild rumours started circulating about her whereabouts.

Kate broke the news to the public about her health challenges, and the fact she needed to step away from her duties during her treatment in a brave solo video message straight to nation. Russell Myers reveals that Pippa played a previously unknown, but very crucial role in the statement.

The new books uses exclusive access to provide never-before-seen insight into the unprecedented, personal address, which sent shockwaves across the nation. From palace insiders to sources close to the couple, the book is the first joint biography of the future King and Queen to be published in more than 10 years.

The explosive biography, a four-part serialisation of which appears in the Mirror, reveals that it was not a palace aide who wrote her candid statement revealing her cancer journey for the first time, but Pippa herself who helped pen it.

“Catherine had already decided to make a personal statement,” Myers reveals. “She had seen the positivity and warmth that had greeted the King when he had been so open about his own diagnosis. More than that, though, the princess believed that her experience could benefit others in similar distressing circumstances. Catherine’s family rallied round, with her sister Pippa helping to write the script for the short video statement.”

In the statement, which saw Kate sitting – dressed down in jeans and a jumper – on a bench surrounded by daffodils, showed a nice side of the princess to the public for the very first time. The future Queen explained to the public: “It has taken us time to explain everything to George, Charlotte and Louis in a way that is appropriate for them, and to reassure them that I am going to be ok.”

She also appealed for privacy for her young family as they went through the turbulent period, which she admitted had been “incredibly tough”.

A senior palace source told Myers: “The days beforehand were filled with shock, but at that moment, it was genuinely as if the world stood still”.

But Pippa’s support for her sister behind closed doors did not end there, the new book reveals. Kate’s younger sister was a regular fixture at the Wales’ family home over the next few months, the author exclusively reveals, as was the youngest Middleton sibling, James.

Along with their parents, Carole and Michael Middleton, the whole family rallied round with “quiet evening dinners” and “playdates to keep the children entertained” – with Carole and Michael also offering up their home as a haven for weekends away whilst Kate had been forced to step back from royal life temporarily.
