PM Modi dominates X as new rankings reveal his posts lead national engagement

The newly introduced “most-liked” country-wise feature on X, also known as Twitter, was recently released, and in India, the top spot goes to none other than Prime Minister Narendra Modi. PM Modi has eight out of the ten most liked tweets in India in the last 30 days, as per the new ‘most-liked’ country-wise feature on X, the social media platform.

X on Wednesday rolled out the feature of the ‘most-liked’ country-wise feature, which lists the most-liked posts by a user in the respective country in the last 30 days. The list will now be changing every 30 days, where the ‘most-liked’ post will be updated every 30 days. The ranking is based on the real engagement users give to the posts by liking them.

Likes, one of the most fundamental engagement metrics on X, have recently found new prominence with the revamp of the platform as X. The X team has highlighted that these posts were not chosen due to the number of followers an account has, but rather by the engagements in the respective country. In this December edition of the X most-liked country-wise list, PM Modi has eight out of the ten posts which have received the most likes in India.

In the past month, the tweets which have appeared in the ‘most-liked’ X country-wise list by PM Modi include a tweet from the PM presenting a Russian-language copy of the Bhagavad Gita to President of Russia Vladimir Putin. In another tweet which was the most-liked tweet in India, PM Modi was seen welcoming President Putin in New Delhi, as the post had received the most likes from X users in the country. According to reports, other posts by PM Modi also talk about India’s relations with Russia which are almost six decades strong, were also highly liked by X users.

PM Modi’s presence in the list is not new, as in the past two years, PM Modi has grown his X presence and now has over 100 million followers on X, ranking him among the most followed X users in the world.

Twitter now with its new ‘most-liked’ country-wise list is showing that PM Modi has emerged as the most followed leader across the world. The ‘most-liked’ list measures engagement, not the follower count, where each user gives their real reaction to a post or tweet by either liking it or not. Most of the posts in the country-wise list by PM Modi have a diplomatic touch to them, which are some of the posts related to the countries’ cultural narratives and state visits.

According to some X experts, this newly introduced X feature will make it easier for the X users to discover localised content on the platform. This feature will also give X an added advantage to grow more impactful conversations on the platform with users who will be able to view the ‘most-liked’ content from users in their own countries.
