Police Scotland seized drugs worth almost £14m in the run-up to Christmas, in what it described as a record week for recoveries across the country.

The largest haul, more than £8m of cocaine, was discovered during a raid in Bellshill, North Lanarkshire, on 11 December.

The following day ecstasy, amphetamine and mephedrone worth more than £3.5m was found in Fraserburgh, Aberdeenshire.

A force spokesperson confirmed 15 people had been arrested and charged in connection with drugs offences.

Assistant Chief Constable Stuart Houston said: “These significant seizures mark one of our most successful weeks for removing drugs from the streets of Scotland, and they will have a huge impact on the cocaine supply across the country.

“Policing does not stop just because it’s Christmas time and we remain relentless in our fight against drugs.”

Further seizures in Perth and Kinross included £1.2m of cocaine in Dunning and £560,000 of the Class A drug at a business in Bridge of Earn.

Cocaine and cannabis worth over £500,000 were also found in the loft of a house in the Lhanbryde area of Elgin, Moray.

Officers said £175,000 of cocaine was recovered from a car stopped on the M74 near Moffat, Dumfries and Galloway.
