Police shot a man believed to be armed with a knife north of Brisbane on Wednesday afternoon.

Officers fired at the man on Akebia Street in Arana Hills about 12.30pm.

The “younger man” was shot by police in Arana Hills about 12.30pm.

The man was taken to hospital in a critical condition and was undergoing surgery.

A police spokesperson would not confirm his age, but said he was a “younger man”.

Akebia Street is just 70 metres long and backs on to Sue Miller Park.
