Primorje Rijeka caused a surprise in the 7th round of the Croatian League by beating Jug in Dubrovnik.

This match was the derby of the round, but Jug was considered the favorite, based on the teams’ rosters. Primorje has displayed very good performances this season (including the one in a 14:16 loss to Mladost in the 6th round). Nevertheless, few believed the Rijeka-based team could earn points in Dubrovnik, especially considering it hadn’t won an away match against Jug in 11 years.

The game started in an expected direction. Jug imposed its rhythm and built a 5-goal lead in the first quarter (7:2, 8:3). Primorje leveled at 9:9 by the end of the first half. Midway through the third period, Primorje went ahead for the first time – 12:11. Shortly after, the visitors doubled their advantage and led until the end. Jug couldn’t equalize.

A 19-year-old Len Dujmic contributed five goals to Primorje’s 19:17 win, and Tin Brubnjak added four. Vlaho Pavlic and Marko Zuvela netted four goals each for Jug.

After Jug’s loss, only Mladost and Jadran remain undefeated.

Jadran Split, the reigning champion, didn’t play in the 7th round. Mladost sank Solaris 17:9 with five goals from Marko Radulovic, and climbed atop the table.
