Filmmaker Priyadarshan has extended a helping hand to Rajpal Yadav, who is currently going through a period of severe financial distress. Having shared a professional and personal bond for over two decades, the director has taken proactive steps to ensure Rajpal receives the support necessary to overcome his current problems.
In a recent conversation with Mid-Day, Priyadarshan opened up about his long-standing relationship with Rajpal Yadav. Acknowledging the actor’s recent struggles, which included spending time behind bars, Priyadarshan revealed that he has requested the producers of their upcoming project, Jubilee Films, to compensate the actor above his standard market rate.
“I told the producers [Jubilee Films] of my next to pay Rajpal more than what he charges because of his situation. We want to save him,” Priyadarshan said, confirming that the producers have accepted his request. According to him, Rajpal Yadav is set to take on the role of the antagonist in this upcoming project.
Priyadarshan further shared that he has been aware of Rajpal Yadav’s situation for some time. This awareness made him consistently cast Rajpal in his films and even recommend him for various advertisement projects. Talking about the root of the actor’s troubles, Priyadarshan expressed empathy, saying, “The poor guy made a blunder because of his poor education. Rajpal is a good soul.”
The duo’s history dates back to the 2000 film Jungle, where Rajpal Yadav’s performance first caught the director’s eye. Their official collaboration began with Hungama, marking the start of a memorable partnership. Most of Priyadarshan’s films have featured the actor in comic roles.
Currently, Priyadarshan is focused on the post-production of Bhooth Bangla, a comedy-horror film starring Akshay Kumar, Paresh Rawal, Tabu, and Wamiqa Gabbi, alongside Rajpal Yadav. Produced by Ekta Kapoor, Shobha Kapoor, and Akshay Kumar, the film is slated for release on April 10, 2026. Additionally, the director is also reportedly working on a comic caper featuring Pankaj Tripathi and Rajpal Yadav.
