Dame Prue Leith announced last month that she will be stepping down from The Great British Bake Off but was on top form as she took to the catwalk at London Fashion Week

Dame Prue Leith has swapped the kitchen for the catwalk as she made a dazzling appearance at London Fashion Week.

Though the TV chef hadn’t forgotten her roots entirely as she invited two of her pals from The Great British Bake Off to cheer on. Prue 86, made a head-turning appearance as she joined models at the Vin+Omi show at The Art’otel in Hoxton this week.

The Cotswold’s Kitchen host donned a striking orange blazer that was complete with extravagant ruffles and wore a dramatic floral display in her hair. A pair of red trainers completed the outfit , whilst Prue’s signature quirky glasses, this time featuring red and purple frames, were also a main feature of the look.

In pictures taken backstage, the TV star was in great spirits and looked full of life as she prepared to strut her stuff down the runway.

Prue was not short of support for the evening, with Matt Lucas and Alison Hammond cheering her on from the audience, along with Loose Women presenter Charlene White. John Playfair, who has been married to Prue for a decade, was also there.

This is not the first time Prue has taken part in London Fashion Week, having rocked a dress last year that Vin+Omi had designed in a parachute form, and in 2024, she waltzed down the catwalk in a daring black leather number.

But for Prue, her latest appearance at London Fashion Week comes just weeks after she announced that she was stepping down from The Great British Bake Off after almost a decade in the judging role alongside Paul Hollywood.

Having joined as a replacement for Dame Mary Berry in 2017, Prue wrote on Instagram: “Bake Off has been a fabulous part of my life for the last nine years, I have genuinely loved it and I’m sure I’ll miss working with my fellow judge Paul, Alison and Noel and the teams at Love Productions and Channel 4.

“But now feels like the right time to step back (I’m 86 for goodness sake!), there’s so much I’d like to do, not least spend summers enjoying my garden.”

In the weeks that followed, it was confirmed that fellow culinary icon Nigella Lawson would be taking the reins on the hit Channel 4 series. She said: “I’m uncharacteristically rather lost for words right now!

“Of course it’s daunting to be following in the footsteps of Prue Leith and Mary Berry before her, great dames both, but I’m also bubbling with excitement.

The Great British Bake Off is more than a television programme, it’s a National Treasure – and it’s a huge honour to be entrusted with it. I’m just thrilled to be joining the team and all the new bakers to come, I wish the marvellous Prue all the best, and am giddily grateful for the opportunity!”

Prue was also quick to offer her seal of approval over her replacement, as she said: “I’m thrilled that Nigella is to experience brilliant Bake Off. She’s sassy, fun and she knows her onions — and her croissants, cake and crumble!”
