Paris Saint-Germain delivered one of the most dominant wins in the history of Le Classique, dismantling Marseille 5-0 at the Parc des Princes on Sunday night.
The opening stages saw Marseille press high, attempting to disrupt PSG’s build-up. They created the first clear opportunity when Amine Gouiri met a driven cross inside the six-yard box, but goalkeeper Matvey Safonov reacted sharply to deny him from close range.
PSG quickly punished that missed chance. In the 12th minute, Desire Doue released Nuno Mendes down the left, and the full-back squared across goal for Dembele to tap into an empty net.
Once ahead, PSG began to dominate possession and stretch Marseille’s defensive structure. Bradley Barcola struck the post after a precise pass from Senny Mayulu, and Doue forced a save from Geronimo Rulli’s replacement, Jeffrey de Lange.
The second goal arrived in the 37th minute when a defensive error from Leonardo Balerdi allowed Dembele to race through, shift away from pressure and drive a powerful shot inside the near post for 2-0 at the break.
Marseille attempted to increase attacking numbers after the restart but became increasingly exposed. PSG threatened repeatedly, with Doue and Barcola both hitting the woodwork. The third goal came in the 64th minute when Joao Neves lifted a volley into the area and Facundo Medina, tracking back, diverted the ball into his own net.
Two minutes later the match was effectively over. Dembele turned provider, lifting a measured pass to Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, who waited for the dropping ball and struck a controlled first-time volley past de Lange to make it 4-0.
Substitute Kang-In Lee completed the scoring in the 74th minute, finishing from Mayulu’s pass with a low shot at the near post.
Despite the scoreline, Marseille still pushed forward sporadically. Safonov made another good save from a header, and PSG struck the crossbar late through Kvaratskhelia.
The win lifts PSG back to the top of Ligue 1, and gives them a huge confidence boost heading into the run-in.
