Rajpal Yadav Answered Saurabh Dwivedi In A ‘Dignified’ Way Despite Being Mocked Over His Legal Case

Actor, Rajpal Yadav is leading the headlines as the actor was recently mocked by veteran journalist, Saurabh Dwivedi during an award function. For the unversed, while hosting an award function, Saurabh Dwivedi took a jibe at Rajpal Yadav over his Rs. 9 crore cheque-bounce case. However, it was the way Rajpal handled the situation that made him a true hero on social media.

During the recently held Chetak Screen Awards, Rajpal Yadav was in attendance along with various other celebrities. During a segment of the show, hosted by popular journalist Saurabh Dwivedi, Rajpal spoke about global chaos and fluctuating currencies. Responding to him, Saurav Dwivedi took a jibe at him and reminded him of his own dues. He said:

“Rajpal bhai, no matter how much the dollar and rupee fluctuate, aapko utne hi paise lautane padenge jitne udhaar hain.”

Rajpal Yadav handled Saurabh Dwivedi’s mockery in a dignified manner

Saurabh’s dig at Rajpal Yadav triggered laughter across the venue, with many celebrities smiling. But it was Rajpal Yadav’s dignified response which made him look like a true star. Despite feeling agitated or upset with Saurabh’s distasteful comment, Rajpal smiled and also burst into laughter, stating:

“Masla toh sun lo ek baar. Main toh masla hi sunana chahta hoon.”

Netizens criticise Saurabh Dwivedi for insulting Rajpal Yadav

Though Rajpal Yadav brushed off the entire conversation, keeping the cheerful mood of the show, netizens, especially the actor’s fans, got furious. As soon as the video went viral, people started trolling Saurabh for his comment and hailed Rajpal for maintaining his dignity. A few others also pointed out the ‘uncomfortable silence’ after Saurabh’s comment. One of the netizens commented, “Such an insensitive comment, but beautifully answered by Rajpal Yadav.”

What is Rajpal Yadav’s cheque bounce case?

Rajpal Yadav’s case dates back to 2010, when the actor took a loan of Rs. 5 crores from Delhi-based Murali Projects Pvt. Ltd. to fund his 2012 directorial debut, Ata Pata Laapata. The film tanked at the box office, and Rajpal failed to repay the loan. In April 2018, a Magisterial Court convicted him and his wife, Radha, under Section 138 of the Negotiable Instruments Act. After seven cheques issued to the complainant bounced, the actor was sentenced to six months of simple imprisonment.

The conviction was upheld in 2018, but despite a revised petition, the legal troubles only intensified. The debt rose from Rs. 5 crores to Rs. 9 crores. By October 2025, Yadav deposited Rs. 75 lakh via two demand drafts, but most of the liability remained unpaid. On February 5, 2026, Rajpal surrendered to the Tihar Jail authorities to serve his six-month sentence. He also made an emotional appeal and revealed facing a severe financial crunch. After Rajpal’s emotional plea, several celebrities came forward to help the actor.
