Ever since the birth of his daughter, Raha, Ranbir Kapoor has been vocal about how fatherhood has changed his perspective on life. Recently, while being announced as the brand ambassador for a jewellery brand, he opened up about his personal journey as a father and how he wishes to redefine the parent-child dynamic compared to what he experienced growing up.

Reflecting on his relationship with his late father, Rishi Kapoor, Ranbir admitted that there was a certain level of formality between them. In a video shared on the YouTube channel Ranbir Kapoor Kingdom, he explained, “My father’s relationship with me had a little bit of distance, it was not like a friendship, because that’s how that generation was, there was a glass wall.”

However, Ranbir is confident about wanting to ensure that his relationship with Raha is built on a different foundation. Expressing his desire for a deeper connection, he shared, “But now, differently with my child, I want to break that glass wall. I want to be a friend to her, give her the wings to fly in whichever direction she wants.”

This transformation was earlier also shared by his wife, Alia Bhatt. Speaking to Esquire India, Alia highlighted a more vulnerable side of Ranbir, revealing that he is far more sensitive than he lets on. She mentioned that while he is naturally shy and holds a lot back, he is incredibly expressive with Raha. She added, “His eyes, his face, everything lights up. He almost becomes a child himself.” Alia also recalled how Ranbir took a month off work before Raha was born and would literally run home from film sets just to see her.

Beyond parenting, Ranbir also spoke about carrying forward the prestigious Kapoor legacy. He explained that the next generation cannot succeed simply by relying on the past. He said, “You have to take an individualistic approach, your own thought process, bringing something new to the table. If you are doing the same copy-paste of what your forefathers have done, somewhere there would be a saturation point. So I think it’s the intention you have to really carry a feeling, a feeling of legacy and emotion forward. If you have that in the true sense, then nothing can stop you.”

On the work front, fans are looking forward to seeing Ranbir and Alia share the screen in Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Love and War. Ranbir also has Ramayana Part 1 and Animal Park in the pipeline.
