The excitement around Nitesh Tiwari’s magnum opus Ramayana continues to grow. While fans are eagerly waiting for the first part to hit the big screen this Diwali, there is an update about the sequel. Ranbir Kapoor has reportedly started filming for Ramayana: Part 2 in Mumbai.

The project, which has been split into two parts, is being produced on a massive scale by Namit Malhotra. While the first part is currently in its post-production phase and gearing up for its 2026 release, the team has wasted no time in moving forward with the next chapter of the epic.

According to a report by India Today, the current filming schedule in Mumbai is expected to last approximately two months. This phase of production focuses on the story after the abduction of Sita. The source shared, “It is an almost two-month schedule with some really heavy-duty action and drama planned. The story will move towards Lord Ram’s journey towards Lanka, and the filmmakers have already built lavish sets for the same.”

The filming will also feature important sequences between Lord Ram and Lord Hanuman. Sunny Deol, who plays Hanuman, is expected to join Ranbir Kapoor on set over the coming weekend. The source added, “There are also a lot of scenes between Lord Ram and Lord Hanuman, and the two actors will be filming those.”

Before starting this schedule, Ranbir was busy with Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Love and War, alongside Alia Bhatt and Vicky Kaushal. Similarly, Sunny Deol has been filming for AR Murugadoss’s upcoming project with Excel Entertainment. The current Ramayana 2 schedule will also involve Ravie Dubey, who plays Lakshman, and Yash, who takes on the role of Ravan.

The scale of the project is massive, with producer Namit Malhotra reportedly investing around Rs 4,000 crore to ensure an international-level experience. The film is being shot specifically for IMAX to provide high-quality visuals.

In a recent development, a first-cut version of Ramayana: Part I was screened for a select audience at the Cinemark Playa Vista theatre in Los Angeles. This test screening, involving participants aged 18 to 60, was planned to gather feedback for further edits. Initial reactions have been highly positive, with viewers praising the film’s storytelling and visual effects.

While Ramayana: Part 1 is slated for a Diwali 2026 release, Ramayana: Part 2 is currently scheduled to arrive in theaters in 2027.
