At long last, the NHL has retuned from the Olympic break and the Rangers are back in action tonight — with two newly minted Olympic gold medalists in the lineup.
Forwards J.T. Miller and Vincent Trocheck were both part of the United States men’s hockey team that won gold over Canada on Feb. 22, with Rangers head coach Mike Sullivan and assistant coach David Quinn making up two-thirds of Team USA’s coaching staff.
The Rangers will resume their season tonight against the Philadelphia Flyers, and they’ll get a major boost with two stars back in the lineup after spending time on injured reserve. Goalie Igor Shesterkin and defenseman Adam Fox both suffered lower-body injuries in the Blueshirts’ Jan. 5 game.
“I think it’s a huge boost,” Sullivan said. “These guys, the caliber of player that they are, it’s hard to replace those guys — as we know. So when you get two elite players back in the lineup like that, I think it gives a huge boost of confidence to the whole group.”
