Rangers have appointed former Sheffield Wednesday manager Danny Rohl as their new manager.

The 36-year-old originally ruled himself out of the race to become Russell Martin’s successor last week, when Kevin Muscat appeared to be front-runner, but hass now signed a two-and-a-half-year contract at Ibrox.

He told the club’s website: “It is a huge privilege to be taking on the role of head coach at such an incredible club, recognised around the world.

“I know it has been a difficult start to the season, but there is still so much to play for in four competitions, and my staff and I will give it everything to reward the supporters and the club.”

Rohl  took charge of Sheffield Wednesday in October 2023, becoming the youngest manager in the English Football League.

Rohl guided the Owls to safety before leading them to a mid-table finish in 12th place the following season, but departed during the summer amid financial uncertainty and ownership issues at Hillsborough.

Martin’s tenure at Ibrox lasted only 17 matches, leaving Rangers eighth in the table after one win in six. The club also suffered a heavy 9-1 aggregate loss to Club Brugge in Champions League qualifying and have endured defeats in both of their Europa League fixtures.
