Singer, Soriah Barry, tragically died in 2024 aged 27 after a fatal head-on collision when she dropped off her friend in London

Aspiring singer, Soriah Barry, died just days before a ‘life-changing’ meeting about her career, her heartbroken mum has revealed. Soriah, 27, died in a devastating collision with a double-decker bus in London in 2024 after dropping off her friend.

The R&B starlet was rushed to hospital just before 7am on February 8, 2024, but tragically died from her injuries. Her bereft mum, has now revealed her daughter was about to meet with Apple Music before the horror crash, in a hope that the global powerhouse would release Soriah’s music. The promising young singer was following in the footsteps of her aunt, Jamilah Barry, who has a legion of loyal fans, after breaking into the music industry as a teen.

Speaking to the Metro, revealing that her daughter too had a real chance of making it in the industry, her mum, Saphiatu, said she had kept Soriah’s room exactly the way it was – apart from throwing away the KFC boxes.

Aunt Malika Barry added: “Everything was working well for her. The music was going so well, she had a meeting with Apple Music and was going on Spotify. She was so talented and beautiful – she was the full package.”

Following the tragic loss, Apple Music told Soriah’s family they want to upload her songs in memory of the promising singer.

Soriah had recently returned from a weekend getaway with friends at an AirBnB when the crash occurred.

CCTV footage captured the singer’s vehicle swerving towards a stationary bus in Hackney before a “bang like a firework” was heard and smoke billowed from both vehicles.

The bus driver stated he believed Soriah had crossed the carriageway, planning to park ahead of the bus. The inquest heard from a witness who dashed to assist the young singer.

He described how Soriah was trapped beneath airbags and he asked if she was okay, and she replied: “No, I’m not.”

Bystanders raced to help as she suffered cardiac arrest, before emergency services arrived. It took two hours for her to reach hospital, where her mum was waiting, in rush hour traffic.

Shockingly, some witnesses filmed Soriah lying on the road with her clothes open and uploaded the footage to TikTok.

Her cause of death was given as internal bleeding and severe damage to her liver. The inquest heard she had been to a party the night before but was a “safe driver” and she was below the drink and drive limit.

The coroner concluded Soriah hadn’t been wearing a seatbelt. But the inquest couldn’t determine a reason why the car crashed.

Her family believe she was distracted at the wheel of the car which they say often veered to the side, and they think she accidentally accelerated instead of braking.
