A squad of undercover cops dressed as characters from “Scooby Doo” busted a gang of cellphone thieves picking on revelers at a carnival in Brazil.
The undercover officers in São Paulo included four dressed as Scooby Doo, Shaggy, Velma and Daphne from the cartoon classic about a group of teens who always, somehow, end up catching the bad guys.
Others were dressed as characters from “Squid Games,” while in Rio officers pulled a similar operation while dressed as characters from “Money Heist” — and even Jason Voorhees from the “Friday the 13th” to give the crooks a real scare.
The Scooby gang cops arrested two women and a man, with at least one of the women with at least eight stolen phones, police said.
Officers seized the cells before returning the devices to their rightful owners, and the crooks were then hauled to a São Paulo police station for their dastardly deeds.
It’s not the first time Brazilian officers have turned to dressing up as characters from shows or movies to keep order as part of their Operation Tracking initiative.
Earlier this month, São Paulo police officers who had disguised themselves as characters from the 1984 flick “Ghostbusters” stopped a woman who had allegedly stolen 12 cellphones.
And, cops dressed as aliens stopped a man who had tucked away three phones in his clothes.
On Valentine’s Day 2024, a savvy Peruvian cop wearing a teddy bear costume and carrying a box of chocolates somehow managed to lure out a suspected drug dealer in a wild sting operation.
