Reid Wiseman Told His Daughters Where His ‘Will’ Was Before Heading For Artemis II Moon Mission

All eyes are on NASA’s moon mission named Artemis II, which carried four famous astronauts, Reid Wiseman, Victor Glover, Christina Koch and Jeremy Hansen. The four astronauts were carried by the Orion capsules in the SLS rocket. The spacecraft took off from the Kennedy Space Centre. It is a 10-day moon mission. Amidst it, the commander of the ship, Reid Wiseman, is in the heading. 

Reid Wiseman told his daughters about his will before heading for the mission

Before Reid Wiseman left for the moon mission and boarded a rocket, he made sure to tell his teenage daughter about the biggest thing to keep their future safe. He took his two daughters, Ellie and Katherine, for a walk and told them where they could find his will. As per reports, Wiseman told his daughters about the will and trust documents and what might happen if anything happened to him during the moon mission. Reid Wiseman said:

“I told them, ‘Here’s where the will is, here’s where the trust documents are, and if anything happens to me, here’s what’s going to happen to you. That’s just a part of this life.”

This is a conversation that no parent wants to have. Reid Wiseman, who is 50, wanted to let his 20-year-old and 17-year-old daughters be prepared for all odds as he has been raising them single-handedly. His wife, Carroll Taylor Wiseman, passed away due to cancer at the age of 46 in 2020. The family wasn’t prepared to deal with the blow, as they had been fighting it for five years. 

After the emotional walk and letting the daughters know about his plans, Wiseman got the most adorable gift from one of his daughters. While packing his gear for the mission, he found something tucked into his luggage. It was one of his daughters who snuck a homemade cookie inside his flight bag. Sharing the photo on his Instagram handle, Reid wrote:

“When you are packing for the Moon and discover your daughter snuck some cookies she made into your luggage. My heart can’t take it!”

Reid Wiseman stopped flying when his wife got sick

For the family, Reid Wiseman made sure to be present for his family when his wife got sick. Without making it a big deal, he stepped away from his active assignments. At that time, he was serving as deputy chief and then chief of NASA’s Astronaut Office from December 2020, to keep himself grounded so he could be at home. Later, in 2022, he got back to flight rotation, and NASA selected him to command the historic moon mission. His life’s biggest chapter was single parenthood. He has a long list of professional accolades, despite the fact that Reid considered his time as an only parent the biggest challenge and the most rewarding experience. 

Reid Wiseman’s daughters had no interest in the fact that he would be flying again after his 165-day work on the International Space Station. But they soon came on board with him flying again. So, one of them baked a moon-themed cupcake the morning after they had the emotional talk. However, the hardest part of the whole mission is the stress that his daughters went through, as the mission is not easy for the families more than the astronauts.
