'Reject the term work-life balance, just work': Japan's new PM Sanae Takaichi asks MPs to work like horses and…

New Delhi: Japan’s ruling Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) leader Sanae Takaichi has become the country’s new Prime Minister. She also made history by becoming Japan’s first female Prime Minister. The LDP and the right-wing Japan Innovation Party (Ishin) formed a coalition to win, which earned her the required majority to become the Prime Minister.

Sanae Takaichi has openly expressed her desire to become an “Iron Woman.” In her speech after leading the LDP to victory, she rejected the concept of work-life balance and urged party members to work hard and contribute to the country’s progress.

Asks MPs to work like horses

Takaichi said, “I myself will reject the term ‘work-life balance.’ I will just work, work, work.” The new Prime Minister also urged party MPs to work as quickly as horses. However, this statement was criticized by several Japanese leaders.

Addressing the nation after the victory, Sanae Takaichi said, “At this moment, instead of feeling happy, I feel the difficulties ahead. We have a lot of work to do together. I believe there are many policies that need to be implemented quickly.”

She further said, “Together, we will make the LDP a more enthusiastic, positive, and energetic party. We must also strive to make the LDP a party that can transform people’s concerns into hope.”
