After Ranveer Singh exited Don 3, reports suggest that things may not be entirely smooth between the actor and Farhan Akhtar’s production house, Excel Entertainment. Ranveer was set to take the iconic Don franchise forward after Shah Rukh Khan, making his casting one of the most talked-about developments around the film.
However, following the release of Dhurandhar, reports claimed that Ranveer had stepped away from the project. Now, fresh buzz indicates that Excel Entertainment is unhappy with the turn of events and is reportedly seeking compensation, citing significant losses allegedly incurred after the actor’s exit. They reportedly demanded Rs 40 crore in compensation.
Variety India quoted a source as saying, “Ranveer claims he left the project because he wasn’t happy with the script. He kept asking for changes to be made and didn’t like what the final draft read. Excel, on the other hand, claims that they went ahead with pre-production only after Singh gave his go-ahead.”
Meanwhile, Bollywood Hungama reported that two closed-door meetings were held under the aegis of the Producers Guild of India (PGI). The first meeting took place almost a week ago, and producers such as Sajid Nadiadwala were present. The initial discussion was about examining the circumstances behind Ranveer’s exit and what it means for producers when a film falls through at an advanced stage of pre-production.
However, the matter escalated reportedly during the second meeting on February 7. Aamir Khan, Siddharth Roy Kapur, Ramesh Taurani and Kumar Taurani were present in the meeting as per Bollywood Hungama.
The publication quoted a source as saying, “From the outset, it was made clear that the intent was not to single out or blame any individual. The discussion revolved around a larger industry issue; what options a filmmaker has after investing substantial money in a film’s pre-production when the principal actor exits the project. The stakeholders also examined the issue from the actor’s point of view and deliberated on safeguards producers can put in place to prevent such situations in the future.”

However, in the second meeting, Ranveer reportedly blamed Excel for unprofessionalism and not being serious about Don 3.
A producer quoted by the publication stated, “Ranveer blamed Excel Entertainment for unprofessionalism and not being serious about taking Don 3 on floors. He stated that Farhan Akhtar never had a bound script in place and that, as an actor, he prefers to work only with fully developed material. Ranveer also pointed out that Farhan was never open to feedback on the script and had issues incorporating certain subplots. He further alleged that Excel was exploring the possibility of getting Hrithik Roshan on board and only re-approached him after the success of Dhurandhar, to capitalise on his momentum.”
Meanwhile, Farhan Akhtar has reportedly put this film on the back burner and is focusing again on Jee Le Zaraa. Ranveer, on the other hand, is awaiting the release of Dhurandhar: The Revenge.
