Richard Keys’ time in Doha is coming to an end after after a long-distance relationship with the former friend of his daughter, they are finally set to live together
Football pundit Richard Keys found himself under examination after falling in love with 37-year-old Lucie Rose, and now the pair are set to live with each other full time back in Britain.
The former Sky Sports anchor, 68, wed his daughter’s good friend back in 2023, the pair got getting hitched seven years on from his ex-wife of 34 years reportedly discovering their affair while she was recovering from cancer. Lucie, who is 32 years his junior, is said to be looking forward to her husband’s return to the UK from the Middle East, where he has been fronting beIN’s coverage of the Premier League.
He and Andy Gray have been the face of the channel since 2013 but it appears their time in Qatar is coming to an end. Their respective contracts are due to expire at the end of the 2025/26 season, and neither are expected to sign new deals and will leave in an amicable end of their 13 years in the UAE.
According to The Telegraph, Richard is set to move in permanently with his wife Lucie. They in a long-distance relationship since they secretly married in Devon three years ago. His daughter Jemma’s previous close friend had refused to move out with him, instead staying put and waiting for his return.
Jemma and her father are said to have fallen out after the alleged affair was exposed, which plunged the ex-Hollyoaks actress into the depths of her battle with alcoholism. His actress daughter, previously described Lucie as a “friend” in a previous interview, although Richard has since issued a statement denying this.
His former wife Julia filed for divorce from the TV star on grounds of adultery back in 2016 after allegations of an affair with then-28-year-old lawyer.
Lucie and Richard are believed to have been introduced by a mutual friend on the expat social circuit in Qatar, where he was working after his Sky Sports sacking. The affair accusations were the last thing he needed years after being fired from his £500,000-a-year job on Sky Sports after he made derogatory remarks about referee Sian Massey-Ellis.
Richard claimed Julia “had been remission for seven years” when their marriage dissolved. But in April 2018, Julia discussed her husband moving on in her book The MANScript and it didn’t help him following the denials.
She wrote: “Richard’s affair didn’t just devastate my world, but the world of our children Jemma and Josh too. It is only now, two years on, that he has admitted he did have an affair with Lucie, as well as acknowledging his deceit and the damage it has caused.”
Richard’s broadcasting career will always be marred by the events of January 2011 when was recorded as saying: “Somebody better get down there and explain offside to her (Massey).
Gray replied: “Yeah, I know. Can you believe that? Female linesman. Forget what I said – they probably don’t know the offside rule.” Keys then said: “Course they don’t,” to which Gray responded: “Why is there a female linesman? Somebody’s f***** up big.”
In the years since the incident, Gray has revealed that he considered taking his own life as a result of the backlash. Meanwhile, Keys believes that ‘dark forces’ were working against them and alleges that they were ‘set up’.
“The incident, we should have seen coming,” Keys told the Athletic. “It was a set-up, of course it was. But they made capital out of it.”
