Liam Rosenior said his start at Chelsea could not have gone any better in the Premier League after winning his fourth straight league game with a 3-1 victory at Wolves.
Cole Palmer hit a first-half hat-trick in an impressive display by the Blues, who held off a fightback from the league’s bottom side to continue their push towards Champions League qualification.
Aside from two defeats against Arsenal in the Carabao Cup semi-finals, Rosenior has made an impressive start in charge of Chelsea since replacing Enzo Maresca, having won seven of nine games, and the Blues boss said he is excited over the potential of his young squad.
He told BBC Sport: “It can’t really get any better can it? In terms of the Premier League. When you come into a new job at a big club, you want to make a good start.
“I think we’ve done that, I think we’ve got much more to go which is very exciting in terms of the potential of the team.
“As long as we keep improving while we’re winning, that’ll make me a very happy manager.
“First half was everything you want in an away performance at this level. Our pressing was very good, our patterns with the ball was outstanding.
“We put ourselves in a really really strong position. Second half, we want more. Our standards dropped. It’s difficult because the conditions weren’t great.
“It was a difficult day for both teams in terms of the pitch, in terms of the rain. Overall, very very happy with an away three points.”
‘Happy’ Palmer stars with hat-trick
Palmer grabbed the headlines for all the right reasons after recent speculation over his future as he returned to Chelsea’s starting XI with a hat-trick inside 38 minutes – which saw him become the first player ever to score three trebles in the first half in the Premier League.
“Obviously delighted for Cole”, Rosenior added. “There’s been a lot of talk around him, about how happy he is – he looked happy today with his three goals.
“But we could have scored more in the first half and we need to keep improving.
“Cole loves playing football. I love watching. Not just him – the whole team. When they’re in the mood and when they do the right thing and their mentality is right, they’re an outstanding group of players.
And Cole is definitely someone that we want on the pitch more often than not. And hopefully he can stay fit now.”
