Ryan Thomas has opened up about his health diagnosis, admitting he is feeling very “embarrassed”. The former Coronation Street star – who is engaged to TV star Lucy Mecklenburgh – has discussed his recent diagnosis.
In a new episode of his family podcast, Ryan explained that he had been too embarrassed to speak about his diagnosis at first and has now been given medication for the condition, which affects many people.
Speaking with brothers Adam and Scott on the At Home With The Thomas Bro’s podcast, he said: “ADHD for me has been a big problem and I’ve not actually spoke about it yet because If I’m really honest, I was quite embarrassed that I had ADHD.
“It felt like I had a condition and growing up, as kids, ADHD, I don’t feel like, was ever a thing – or it was loosely spoke about. After the whole process, I was diagnosed – and I’m on medication.”

He explained that many friends had felt things had changed quickly – but he was still struggling. He shared: “And friends that are on the medication have said it changes your life instantly, like the limitless pill.
“And it’s been quite disheartening for me because I’m on the medication every day. I’ve been on it for the last three, four weeks. And I still feel overwhelmed. I still misplace things. There is a part of me that I recognise – that I can sit down and write something on a piece of paper, which is very rare that that happens with me. I’ve up the dosage now, so let’s just see if that does anything. It’s being reliant on medication that I don’t like.”
His doctor had explained that the side effects of medication were lack of sex drive and lack of appetite, something which Ryan insists hasn’t affected him. He said: “I’m like a horny motherf***er that wants to eat all the time… It’s not working.”
Meanwhile, Ryan’s brother Adam is also battling with his health, and has been diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis. Speaking about his brother, Ryan said: “I always reach out to Adam and I can see it in his face and I can see the pain he’s going through.
“What happened during Strictly is he was on medication, adrenaline, and that’s what gets you through an experience like that but I think now coming off the back of it he did say the other day he was walking really funny.
“And it’s so so hard to watch, he went “wow, the medication has worn off’, so he’s in a lot of discomfort and pain with this and I think he’s really suffering with it, and it’s not nice to watch.”
