The UK is finally getting its own version of Saturday Night Live, and the cast list is quite impressive. From a royal link to famous relatives, nobody will be disappointed when the show finally airs on Sky from next month.
The new Sky TV series will broadcast live from London, and the first series, consisting of six episodes, promises to be action-packed. In the series, which will replicate the NBC hit, the show will focus on pop culture and current events have a special guest every week.
From the famous opening monologue to the Weekend Update review on the global news, it’s fair to say that the show will have everybody in fits of laughter each week. It is completed by Taskmaster contestant Ania Magliano, Everyone Else Burns star Paddy Young, Edinburgh Fringe regular Annabel Marlow, and stand-up comedian Al Nash. But Celeste has a rather unexpected link to the Royal Family, more specifically, Princess Eugenie.

Meanwhile, Annabel Marlow also has a very unique link to the royals, albeit to the six consorts of Henry VII. Her sibling, Toby Marlow, is the mastermind behind the hit West End and Broadway musical, Six the Musical. She also had a part to play in the musical, taking on the role of Katherine Howard, the fifth wife of the notorious king.
Annabel played the role of Katherine, who was executed aged between 18 and 19, from July 31, 2017, through til October 14 of the same year. Toby also appeared in an episode of Silent Witness in 2006, taking on the role of Stephen Owen. Four years ago, they also became the first openly non-binary composer-lyricist to win a Tony for the Best Original Score for Six with collaborator Lucy Moss.
The show will launch on March 21, with the audience, both at home and in the studio, hearing the iconic opening phrase: “Live from London, it’s Saturday Night.” Lead producer James Longman said: “The UK is absolutely packed with incredible comedy talent right now, and this cast represents the freshest voices we have; they’re bold, exciting and of course, incredibly funny.
“The chemistry between them is something special, and we can’t wait to share this funny group of people with the world.” Meanwhile, executive director of Unscripted Originals at Sky, Phil Edgar-Jones, said: “We all need a laugh like never before, so we’re beyond excited to bring Saturday Night Live to the UK, only 50 short years after it first launched in the US.
“The show’s long-standing legacy of discovering and nurturing outstanding comedy talent speaks for itself, and this UK version will build on that legacy with the support of Lorne Michaels, a brilliant local production team, and an exciting new generation of voices. Saturday nights are looking bright!”
