He was once one of the BBC’s biggest stars, but Scott Mills’ career has come to a halt after the broadcaster was sacked from his Radio 2 role over ‘personal conduct’ allegations

Scott Mills’ career has ground to a halt after the BBC Radio 2 star was sacked by the corporation. The broadcaster, who was often the voice that woke millions of people, was taken off the air last week after his March 24 show.

It later emerged that Mills, 53, was sacked by the corporation over allegations of personal conduct. The Mirror later revealed that Scott was questioned by police under caution in 2018 over historical allegations of sexual offences. However, the investigation, which began in 2016, was closed in 2019 after the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) found insufficient evidence to bring charges. The allegations are reported to have happened between 1997 and 2000.

On Wednesday, April 1, The Mirror revealed that the BBC was forced to terminate Mills’ contract after receiving compelling new information. The BBC has since confirmed the Mirror’s report, a day after it emerged that they knew of information relating to the police investigation. They pledged that they were “doing more work to understand the detail of what was known by the BBC at this time.” Here, we look at everything Scott has lost after being sacked over allegations of personal conduct.

BBC Radio 2 job

On Wednesday, the BBC confirmed that they had fired Scott after they “obtained new information,” which went against their culture and values. Mills took over the Radio 2 breakfast show from Zoe Ball in January 2025. Having worked at the corporation for over two decades, Scott was paid between £355,000 – £359,999 in the year leading up to April 2025.

He was the corporation’s 11th highest-paid star. The BBC told the Mirror: “What we can confirm is that in recent weeks, we obtained new information relating to Scott and we spoke directly with him. As a result, the BBC acted decisively in line with our culture and values and terminated his contracts on Friday, 27 March.”

Motorway service station bridge

Scott was once honoured with his own bridge at the M3 Fleet service station on March 16, 2016. However, this bridge will now be renamed. The Scott Mills Bridge plaque at the Welcome Break services was also decorated with his autograph.

The broadcaster spearheaded a campaign to get the bridge next to the services named after him after a light-hearted campaign with former co-star, Chris Stark. The CEO of Welcome Break was also roped in to help with the campaign, but it’s now claimed that the plaque located between Junctions 4a and 5 on the Hampshire motorway will be removed.

“It’s highly likely Welcome Break will rename the bridge in light of Scott being fired, especially given the nature of the allegations,” a source told The Sun. They added: “It’s not a great look for them to be associated with any scandals.”

Charity patronage

On Tuesday, Scott was dropped from Neuroblastoma UK, of which he’d been a celebrity patron. Mills is no longer a patron for the charity, which aims to fund research into more effective treatments for children diagnosed with the cancer. His patron bio has vanished from Neuroblastoma UK’s website.

A spokesperson told The Mirror: “Following his dismissal from the BBC, Neuroblastoma UK have taken the decision to part ways with Scott Mills, and he is no longer a Patron of our charity. We have communicated this decision to Scott and his team, and would like to thank him for his support to date. We remain unwavering in our mission to fund research to find better treatments, and a cure, for neuroblastoma.”

The former BBC radio host first supported Neuroblastoma UK after a friend’s daughter was diagnosed with this aggressive cancer. Scott helped the charity to raise awareness of neuroblastoma and champion the work of Neuroblastoma UK to raise vital funds.

However, the MS charity, MS Society, says Mills is still a patron. The organisation are “following developments closely and have no update at the moment.”

Podcast

In light of his sacking, Scott’s Pop Top 10 podcast pal with Rylan Clark has also been pulled. The series, which launched in September 2024, was due to return later this month.

He’s also lost his place on the Race Across The World podcast, The Detour, which he hosted after winning the celebrity edition of the show. Former Strictly Come Dancing contestant Tyler West will replace Mills as the host.

On Wednesday, via his lawyers, Scott broke his silence and issued a statement. He said: “The recent announcement that I am no longer contracted to the BBC has led to the publication of rumour and speculation. In response to this the Metropolitan Police has made a statement, which I confirm relates to me.

“An allegation was made against me in 2016 of a historic sexual offence which was the subject of a police investigation in which I fully cooperated and responded to in 2018. As the police have stated, a file of evidence was submitted to the Crown Prosecution Service, which determined that the evidential threshold had not been met to bring charges.

“Since the investigation related to an allegation that dates back nearly 30 years and the police investigation was closed 7 years ago, I hope that the public and the media will understand and respect my wish not to make any further public comment on this matter.”I wish to thank from the bottom of my heart all those who have reached out to me with kindness, my former colleagues, and my beloved listeners, who I greatly miss.”
