Search for swimmer missing from Sunshine Coast beach

A search and rescue operation is under way after a man disappeared while swimming on the Sunshine Coast.

The man, aged in his 60s, was last seen in the water at Happy Valley in Caloundra about 2pm.

Water police, a helicopter, jet skis and foot patrols are working with surf lifesavers to find the man.

A week ago, two people died in waters in south-east Queensland.

An 18-year-old died at Buddina Beach, also on the Sunshine Coast, after going missing in the water about 4.15pm. His body was found that evening.

A 20-year-old man also died on the Gold Coast. He was seen struggling in the water off Main Beach, near Breaker Street, about 6.30pm on Tuesday before witnesses lost sight of him.

His body was located on Wednesday afternoon.
