Manchester United registered a hard-fought win away to Everton, opening up a three-point lead over Chelsea and Liverpool.

Benjamin Sesko came off the bench to score United’s winner with a first-time finish. Bryan Mbeumo and Matheus Cunha were also involved in the decisive counter-attack, which left Everton’s otherwise solid backline exposed.

For most of the night in Merseyside, the Red Devils’ attack was flat, to say the least. It was their defensive resilience that paved the way for Michael Carrick’s fifth win since his return to the touchline.

Senne Lammens delivers heroic performance against Everton

David Moyes, as usual, set up a very compact block, giving Manchester United limited space and time on the ball in the final third.

However, Everton, to their credit, did not lack intensity or urgency going forward, creating a number of chances and winning a staggering 10 corners. They also had twice as many shots on target as the visitors.

Still, United returned home with a clean sheet and all three points, largely due to the brilliance of Senne Lammens.

The 23-year-old started nervously at Hill Dickinson Stadium, gifting possession of the ball to Thierno Barry. However, he recovered swiftly, making a number of impressive saves.

More importantly, the Belgian added much-needed calmness in the six-yard box during set-pieces, as Everton players tried to pack the area and unsettle the United number one.

The former United manager told Sky Sports (via The Independent): “The goalie was bloody brilliant. The save he made from Michael Keane, the way he dealt with the corners.”

Moyes went on to claim the United youngster was the best player in Merseyside on Monday night.

“We hoped somewhere we’d have got a nick on one of them with the pressure we had in those situations. I thought we would get one, but we didn’t. For me he was the best player on the pitch,” the Scot said.

This was United’s first away clean sheet in the Premier League since March 2025, and Lammens’ third in the last six.
