The top three teams, Pro Recco, Brescia, and Savona, all achieved convincing wins in the 14th round of the Italian Championships. The other matches in the first round of Serie A1 in 2026 were very exciting.
Pro Recco defeated Salerno 27:8, with four goals from Luke Pavillard, Max Irving, Andrea Mladossich, and Giacomo Cannella. Brescia beat its rival by 19 goals, too. It recorded a 23:4 away win over Canottieri in Naples. Filipo Ferrero led the attack with four goals. Savona defeated Florentia in Firenze – 17:10. The hosts led 5:4 at the first break. Savona took control from the second quarter and achieved a 7-goal win. As usual, Oliver Leinweber was Savona’s best scorer with five goals.
De Akker climbed to 5th place, beating Trieste 14:13 in a game with many twists and turns. De Akker led 5:3 at the first break. However, Trieste entered the second period leading 7:6. The Bolognese leveled at 9:9 before the final quarter. Trieste got off to a better start in the fourth quarter, building a 13:10 lead with less than five minutes left on the clock. It seemed that the contest was over, but De Akker responded strongly, with four goals. Urbinati scored a winner just six seconds before the final buzzer – 14:13. Di Murro scored four goals for De Akker, and Erdelyi and Campopiano added three each. The best scorer of the game was Niko Cubranic, Trieste’s latest addition. The Croat, who recently moved from Primorje to Trieste, scored five goals.
An encounter between Telimar and Roma Vis Nova, played in Palermo, was similar to the game in Bologna. Telimar established a 10:6 lead in the 20th minute. But, Roma Vis Nova netted seven unanswered goals by the end of the third quarter, building a 13:10 lead. Early in the fourth, the team from the capital was three steps ahead (14:11). Still, Telimar secured a 15:14 victory, scoring the last four goals in the match. Roma Vis Nova has much to regret as it failed to convert two penalty shots in the fourth quarter.
Fourth-placed Posillipo didn’t have an easy match against Olympic Roma. Still, after a 6:6 first half, the Naples-based team controlled the result in the following 16 minutes. Posillipo collected three points with a 13:12 victory.
Iren Genova Quinto beat Ortigia 13:11. The Genoese had a 7:4 advantage at halftime and held back the Sicilians’ comeback attempts in the second half.
