Recently, Arijit Singh made headlines with his decision to step away from playback singing for films, a move that has sparked a discussion among fans and the industry alike. Now, Shreya Ghoshal has opened up about her thoughts on his choice, while also sharing her own perspective on the pressures of the industry and the importance of authenticity in music.

Speaking in an interview with ABP News, Shreya Ghoshal expressed her respect for Arijit’s decision to take a hiatus. She described it as a courageous step, mentioning that the demand for constant output can be taxing. She shared, “I also feel like taking a break sometimes. He took that decision very bravely.”

Shreya spoke warmly of Arijit’s character and his organic relationship with his craft. According to her, his success comes from a place of genuine passion rather than commercial calculation. She added, “He is a musician from the heart. He doesn’t think about why he is making music or what he will get from it. He just does what makes him happy.” This sincerity is what she believes bridges the gap between him and his audience. She mentioned, “For him, music is bigger than everything else, and that’s why people love him so much.”

Apart from the topic of career breaks, Shreya was firm about her standards for live performances. In an era where technology is a part of stage shows, she remains committed to the purity of live vocals. She admitted that the idea of not singing live while on stage is something she cannot accept. She said, “I feel very uncomfortable with that. I will stop singing the day I have to do that.”  For Shreya, as long as her voice supports her and she maintains her disciplined riyaaz, she intends to perform for her fans with complete honesty.

Shreya also touched upon the emotional responsibility that comes with being a public performer. She believes that an artist must prioritize the audience’s experience over their own personal struggles during a show. She explained, “As entertainers, what we are going through personally should not show on stage. People come to us for music and inspiration. Music heals them and helps them escape from their problems.”

Shreya mentioned that the energy she feels on stage is a direct result of the love she receives. She concluded saying, “When your heart is happy, the energy comes automatically.”
