Team India ODI vice-captain Shreyas Iyer has been admitted in St Vincent’s Hospital in Sydney for nearly a week now after a suffering from a life-threatening injury in the third one-day match against Australia at the SCG last Saturday. Iyer suffered from laceration of the spleen which led to internal bleeding and kept him in the ICU as his blood pressure parameters dropped alarmingly low.
The Punjab Kings captain was moved out of the ICU earlier this week after his condition is reported to be stable. In what should be good news for the fans, Iyer posted a message from the hospital providing his health update on Thursday.
“I’m currently in the recovery process and getting better, every passing day. I’m deeply grateful to see all the kind wishes and support I’ve received – it truly means a lot. Thank you for keeping me in your thoughts,” Iyer wrote on social media platform ‘X’.

Iyer suffered this major injury while running back to take a catch which dismissed Australian wicketkeeper Alex Carey off pacer Harshit Rana in the third ODI at the Sydney Cricket Ground. The PBKS skipper was treated on the field by the BCCI medical team including Dr Rizwan before being transferred to St Vincent’s Hospital as his parameters declined rapidly.
