Dharma Productions’ Dostana 2 has had quite a journey. The film had originally gone on floors with Lakshya, Kartik Aaryan and Janhvi Kapoor, but things stalled after Kartik’s reported fallout with the makers. The project was eventually put on hold, leaving fans wondering if it would ever see the light of day.
In 2025, the film found new momentum. Lakshya stayed on, while Vikrant Massey stepped in, marking his first collaboration with Dharma. Now, as per a Variety India report, former Miss India Sini Shetty has been finalised as the leading lady, making her acting debut with the film. Interestingly, Priyanka Chopra, who starred in the original Dostana, also came from the pageant world as a former Miss World.
Earlier, there were strong reports suggesting that Laapataa Ladies actor Pratibha Ranta would join the project. However, with this latest update, it appears Simi Shetty has replaced her. The film had earlier been shelved due to creative differences between Kartik Aaryan and Karan Johar. Although the two have since reconciled, Kartik has not returned to the sequel.
Confirming his involvement, Vikrant Massey shared that he is indeed part of Dostana 2 and hinted at a stylish new avatar in the film. He mentioned that Karan Johar plans to present him in designer outfits and sunglasses, with parts of the shoot set to take place in Europe.
As for Sini Shetty, she was crowned Femina Miss India World 2022 and went on to represent India at Miss World 2023. Born in Mumbai with roots in Karnataka, she is a commerce graduate from SK Somaiya College and a trained Bharatanatyam dancer who completed her Arangetram at just 14.
