Footballing icon David Beckham has opened up on his knighthood as he revealed he was ‘more emotion than nerves’ on his big day at Winsdor Castle with King Charles

Sir David Beckham has revealed exactly what he was feeling when he was knighted by King Charles after years of waiting. The football icon, 50, was recognised at Windsor Castle by the King for his services to sport and charity.

His exciting news was revealed over the summer, but he waited until Tuesday to finally have his moment. He was joined by his wife, Lady Victoria, and even wore her first-ever tailored menswear suit from her fashion brand for the momentous occasion.

David and Victoria’s children, Romeo, Cruz and Harper, also made sure to be by their dad’s side for his big day. However, eldest son Brooklyn continued to distance himself from his famous family as he was nowhere to be seen.

Despite the pain it may have caused, David has opened up about his knighthood as he confessed it was a “very emotional day”. Revealing more about the big moment, an orchestral version of Golden from the hit Netflix series K-Pop Demon Hunters played in the background.

It is thought to have been a rather cheeky reference to his ‘Goldenballs’ nickname, often used by Victoria. “Today has been such an emotional day — more emotion than nerves, in all honesty,” David revealed.

“There have been a few tears and a lot of emotion,” he added to the Sun. “It’s been a very special day.” David explained that his achievement is something that they can “all be proud of today as a family”.

Son Romeo gushed over David following the knighthood as he shared on social media: “No one deserves this more than you, love you so much xxx Congrats Sir dad.”

Cruz also shared photos of the family at Windsor Castle, while Victoria said: “I’m so proud of you @davidbeckham. Thankful for this moment and for my incredible team who worked so hard to bring the vision to life.”

David wore the first-ever tailored menswear piece from Victoria’s own fashion brand, which featured sweet detailing, including a label that featured the date and SDB, in reference to his new initials, Sir David Beckham.

Brooklyn has stayed silent on the news of David’s knighthood, with him opting not to post a congratulatory message over the summer. Instead, the aspiring chef shared an Instagram story promoting pretzel pita chips shortly after the announcement in a move that left many followers puzzled.

Despite his public silence, one source claimed that Brooklyn was “thrilled” for his dad but still prefers to maintain “no contact” with his family for now. Brushing off the rumoured feud on his big day, David managed to share a few words with the King.

Lip-reading expert Nicola Hickling explained that the King told David he was “proud” of him, and David, in return, revealed what he planned to do with his career next. Speaking on behalf of Betfair Slots, Nicola shared that King Charles said: “I am so proud of all you have done with your sports and charities. Amazing, you are unbelievable. I’m proud to knight you.”

David responded that it had been a “great day”, to which the King encouraged him to “do what you’re good at”. At this point, David revealed he planned to write a book. “It’s been my greatest honour, if I’m honest. Next step, I’m going to write a book. But being here has been incredible today.”

“He was quite impressed with my suit,” David told PA of his outfit made by Victoria. “He’s kind of the most elegantly dressed man that I know, so he inspired quite a few of my looks over the years, and he definitely inspired this look.

“It was something that my wife made me. I looked at old pictures of him when he was quite young in morning suits, and I was like, OK, that’s what I want to wear, so I gave it to my wife and she did it.”
