Rahul Gandhi claimed that he believes like Haryana, elections were also “stolen” in Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra and Chhattisgarh using the same “vote theft” modus operandi.
Congress leader Rahul Gandhi has once again leveled “vote chori” (vote theft) charges against the Election Commission (EC) and the ruling BJP, claiming that the pan-India Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls announced by the apex poll panel is designed to cover up and institutionalise alleged “vote theft” across the country.
What did Rahul Gandhi say about SIR?
Talking to reporters in Pachmarhi in Madhya Pradesh’s Narmadapuram on Sunday, Rahul Gandhi claimed that he believes like Haryana, elections were also “stolen” in Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra and Chhattisgarh using the same “vote theft” modus operandi. “Vote theft is an issue and SIR now, it is about covering it up and institutionalising the system,” the Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha said.
The former Congress President, who arrived in the hill town on Saturday to take part in the Madhya Pradesh district Congress presidents’ training camp, also claimed that he and his party have the data that shows elections were “stolen” in these states.
“A few days ago, I gave a presentation on Haryana, and I clearly saw that vote theft was taking place…25 lakh votes were stolen, 1 in 8 votes were stolen. After looking at that, after looking at the data, I believe that the same thing happened in MP, Maharashtra and Chhattisgarh. And this is the system of the BJP and EC (Election Commission),” he alleged.
‘Will release more evidence’
Asked whether he will reveal more details about alleged “vote chori” in the near future, Rahul Gandhi claimed have a “lot of different information, very detailed information,” which will be released in a gradual manner.
“We have more evidence, which we will provide gradually. But my issue is vote theft. The SIR now, it is about covering it up and institutionalising the system. Right now, only a little has been shown,” the Congress MP claimed.
‘Bharat Mata being harmed’
Gandhi also accused the Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah and Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar of colluding to attack the country’s democracy and the Constitution.
“But my issue is that democracy is being attacked, Ambedkar’s Constitution is being attacked. (Prime Minister) Modi ji, (Union Home Minister) Amit Shah ji and (Chief Election Commissioner) Gyanesh ji are doing this directly by forming a joint partnership. And because of this, the country is suffering a lot. Bharat Mata is being harmed, Bharat Mata is being damaged,” he alleged.
Rahul Gandhi’s remarks came after the Election Commission commenced its SIR of voters’ list in nine states and three Union territories on November 4.
