Soap fans are fuming once again as ITV pull Emmerdale and Coronation Street from their ‘soap power hour’ slot to make way for the Six Nations match on Friday evening

Soap fans were left fuming after Emmerdale and Coronation Street were both pulled from their usual slots in another schedule shake-up due to live sports coverage. This is the third month of the ITV schedule changes and follows bosses’ moving the soaps slot to make room for football and rugby coverage last month.

Emmerdale currently airs at 8 pm on ITV for 30 minutes and is followed by 30 minutes of Coronation Street. However, later this week, things will change as neither soap will be shown on Friday, 6 March. The soap power hour will be replaced by a Six Nations match.

The schedule shake-ups to create room for the sporting events used to mean that the soaps were moved to a later time, however with the new schedule, there is less space for the soaps to be easily moved. Instead of moving the slot this week, the soaps will return back to their normal programming on Monday.

Fans have previously expressed their disappointment regarding the soaps taking a back seat, as one person wrote: “Football needs a dedicated channel on ITV this is just ridiculous. My Nan relies on these soaps every evening just to make her feel she has company.”

Another fan said: “First #Emmerdale gets moved from 7pm to 7.30, so as not to clash with other things, then its moved to 8pm & half hour removed… and yet STILL we lose episodes to the boring football? @ITV this is getting silly.”

Another comment read: “Yawn itv is allowed to show another stuff ! Soaps fans have the tv Monday to Friday 20/25 hours a month . When the SPORTS IS NOT ON . ITV have already said soaps don’t make them any money.”

It comes as Emmerdale’s Moira Dingle actress Natalie Robb has hinted her character could be forced to leave her beloved farm for good after years, but she may get revenge on Joe Tate

Natalie’s character Moira moved into the farm with the Barton family back in 2009. During her time at the farm Moria has been widowed, lost her daughter Holly to drug addiction and battled a brain tumour.

Her latest ordeal has seen her wrongly imprisoned for the murders of Celia Daniels and Anya Berisha, while her husband Cain secretly battles advanced prostate cancer. With the truth set to come out, Natalie, 51, fears it could be time for Moira and her family to leave the farm behind.

“Her main focus is to get Cain back to his health,” says Natalie. “The pressure has to be taken off him in order for him to focus properly on his illness.”
