Actor Rajpal Yadav’s emotional confession about his financial struggles, made just before surrendering at Tihar Jail in the Rs 9 crore cheque bounce case, deeply moved many within the film industry. Admitting that he was facing an acute financial crunch and had no one to rely on, Rajpal’s statement quickly went viral. Soon after, Sonu Sood stepped forward in support, offering Rajpal a role in his film along with a small signing amount, making it clear that the gesture was rooted in professional respect and not charity.

Announcing his decision on social media, Sonu urged members of the film fraternity to stand together during difficult times. “Rajpal Yadav is a gifted actor who has given years of unforgettable work to our industry. Sometimes life turns unfair, not because of talent, but because timing can be brutal. He will be part of my film, and I believe this is the moment for all of us..producers, directors, colleagues to stand together. A small signing amount, adjustable against future work, is not charity, it’s dignity,” he wrote. He further added, “When one of our own is going through a tough phase, the industry must remind him he’s not alone. This is how we show we are more than just an industry.

Rajpal’s remarks, reported by Bollywood Hungama, laid bare the extent of his distress. Speaking about his situation, the actor said, “Sir, kya karoon? Mere paas paise nahin hain (sir, what to do? I don’t have the money to pay back). Aur koi upaay nahin dikhta (can’t see another way out).” When questioned about not approaching close friends from the industry for help, he responded, “Sir, yahan hum sab akele hain (Sir, we are all on our own over here). There are no friends. I have to deal with this crisis on my own.

The legal troubles trace back to 2010, when Rajpal took a loan of Rs 5 crore from Murali Projects Pvt Ltd to finance his directorial debut Ata Pata Laapata, which failed to perform at the box office. Following multiple cheque bounces, he and his wife were convicted in 2018, with the verdict upheld a year later. Despite temporary relief from the Delhi High Court, the outstanding amount rose to nearly Rs 9 crore. This month, Justice Swarana Kanta Sharma ordered the actor to surrender, rejecting his final plea for more time after noting repeated failures to honour court undertakings.
