The news will come as a massive blow for fans after Mel C said the group were discussing the reunion as recently as January

Plans for a Spice Girls reunion to mark their 30th anniversary this year have been cancelled. Melanie C, Emma Bunton, Mel B, Geri Halliwell-Horner and Victoria Beckham were believed to be reuniting to celebrate three decades since the release of their first hit, Wannabe.

But in a radio interview this week, Mel C said: “No, there is no reunion. We are communicating all the time. We want to do something – who knows when.”

She told Australia’s KIIS Radio: “But I still feel very optimistic and I keep my fingers crossed that you will see the Spice Girls together at some point in the future.”

The news will come as a massive blow for fans – Mel C said the group were discussing the reunion as recently as January. And last April, The Sun reported how Geri was in talks with the group’s former manager, Simon Fuller, and had jetted off to Miami to discuss a deal.

Even Victoria – who was absent for the last reunion – sparked rumours she might return, saying she “loves” the idea of a Las Vegas residence at Sphere and it would be “tempting”.

Speaking on US radio station Sirius XM, she said: “It would be tempting. But could I take on a world tour? No I can’t. I have a job… How good would the Spice Girls be at the Sphere! I love the idea of it. I mean I don’t know if I could even still sing, I mean I was never that great!”

The Spice Girls haven’t performed in the US since 2008, and Victoria hasn’t taken the stage with the group since the London 2012 Olympic Games closing ceremony. She notably sat out the group’s 2019 UK stadium tour, which saw Geri Halliwell-Horner, Mel B, Emma Bunton and Melanie C perform as a four-piece to sold-out crowds.

With 2026 being a big year for the band, fans were hopeful that all five original members would come together again. Melanie C has also kept the reunion hopes alive. Speaking to Radio 2, she said, “I would love that. I ask the nation to manifest that happening.”

Earlier this year, she revealed that discussions are underway – but admitted not everyone is fully on board just yet. “Next year is a big year for us and we have to acknowledge it in some way,” she said.

“So we are talking about what that’s going to look like and for me, Melanie, I know for sure, and Emma, we’d be back on stage. But sometimes other people need a little bit more convincing.”

As for a full five-member reunion, she added: “It would be the best thing ever, ever, ever. And sometimes it feels like a duty to the world.”

But it seems any plans for a reunion have now fallen apart, as well as plans for a Netflix drama based on the group. Mel B has been noticeably absent from group events – she wasn’t at Emma’s 50th birthday celebrations in January, nor was she at Victoria’s home as the rest of the band met up for a catch up in February. She also skipped the premiere of Posh’s Netflix series in October.
