TIRUPATI: Noted film actress and television host Suma Kanakala has been conferred the ‘Sri Shakti Award’ by Sri Shakti Peetham as part of its sixth anniversary celebrations and annual Brahmotsavams.
She received the award from senior pontiff Siddheswarananda Bharati Mahaswamy and Ramyananda Bharati Swamini during a programme held at the ashram in Tirupati on Wednesday.
The Sri Shakti Award is presented annually to a woman who has excelled in her field and contributed meaningfully to society. This year, Suma Kanakala was chosen for her role in amplifying women’s voices in public platforms and for her efforts in promoting Hindu Dharma.
The award was presented on the third day of the annual festivities.
As part of its focus on women’s empowerment, the Peetham had earlier organised a ‘Suvasini Puja’, where around 10,000 women participated by lighting oil lamps simultaneously. The event earned recognition in the Guinness Book of Records.
